Small BU @ IPP
Portland, Texas

My dad and I went to the Team OSO first meeting of the year to be with/talk too old/ make friends and have a good time. I had decided to take my gear and after the meeting head to Indian Point Pier in Portland, Texas in search of Big Ugly's. I knew it might be a bit early for the drum run but was willing to give it a try. Matt aka Purple Texan, Ronnie, Butch and Ciless were already on the pier when we arrived. The pier was crowded and not a fish had been caught. When I say fish I mean BU's. Plenty of whiting, sand trout and even a hard head was caught. The rain cleared the crowd but did not help the fishing. The night was nasty and just perfect for Big Ugly's All I can say was it was slow. Had plenty time to BS with all my new and old friends? Once the wind settled and changed directions things started to change. Joe T was the first to have decent run but resulted in a slack line. I followed shortly afterwards with the same results. We were there a while with not much going on. Joe and I decided to check bait and to my disappointment more than half of the baits were gone. Those big drum are professionals when it comes to taking a crab off the hook without you noticing it. Shortly afterwards Joe had a big run but the results were a bit different this time. He hooked up and landed with a bit of difficultly from a broke off line tangled in his this big 44" BU. It turned out to be the biggest of the night. Nice fish JOE!

Joe caught his fish he looked beat and left. Me being desperate had to result in removing the shell from the crab. This is one thing I almost never do. I hate those little bait stealers and you have to check the bait often. Well this did the trick. I bet Joe was not even home yet and this little but beautiful (If you can call them that) Big Ugly hit. My Dad did not want to take the rod so I had the Honors. The 34" fish was the result.

LT to RT Matt, Myself and Efrain (My Dad) I baited up and seemed to have waited and eternity before anything else happened. Matt left (It was good fishing with you Matt, I know we will do it again soon.) and shortly afterwards the line went slack on he same pole we had caught the fish on before. This time my Dad was not shy. This fish seemed to have a bit more fight in him. After a brief battle we had him on the pier. Nice 37 incher Dad!

These three fish were the only thing we saw all night. Dad and I were the last two on the pier when we left at 4 o'clock in the morning. The fish were a wee bit on the small side but at least we did not get skunked! I want to thank God for the opportunity to fish as hard as we want and spend quality time with my Dad!

Team C.B.F. scores again!

I thank God for blessings he has given this family!
